Gillian Clarke : Catrin resource and a special offer

Hi

The end of another week is quickly upon us and as we approach the mid point of the school year here at Teacher-of-English.com we continue to grow and develop.
New resources this week include a powerpoint and accompanying worksheets for teaching Gillian Clarke's Catrin. This resource is our fourth on Gillian Clarke's poetry and comes with a special offer for PAYG users of the site: Get all four Gillian Clarke teaching resources for only £13.99. The pack includes Catrin, A Difficult Birth, Cold Knap Lake and The Field Mouse. Department and Individual members will find this new resource available to download in the members' area now.
Up next is Holes by Louis Sachar and An Inspector Calls before we start to publish some new materials for the English 2010 curriculum. For a special sneak preview of what we are working on to help with the transition to English 2010, take a look here.
In the meantime, have a good evening and enjoy the weekend.

Kind Regards

Martin

Functional Skills - A Difficult Birth?

Another busy week sees our membership continuing to grow and our bank of resources developing at a rapid rate. We've had some excellent feedback from members for our new functional skills resource - thank you! Hopefully it will help take some of the stress out of the transition to the English 2010 curriculum, an area we are focusing on more and more, working hard to help our members cope with the demands of a new syllabus.
Already in 2010 we have published Romeo and Juliet and Functional Skills English and we are ready to put some new resources for GCSE Literature onto the site which should appear over the coming week. If you're teaching Gillian Clarke's poems you should find A Difficult Birth, Easter 1998 a helpful addition to the already established resources of The Field Mouse and Cold Knap Lake. We already have a good selection of resources for Pre1914 poetry including The Affliction of Margaret, On my first Sonne, Sonnet and Patrolling Barnegat and a couple of materials for Seamus Heaney's Death of a Naturalist and Storm on the Island. For the novel we've got schemes of work on Of Mice and Men and the ever popular Stone Cold whilst play-wise you could try Blood Brothers, Our Day Out or Romeo and Juliet.
As mentioned in last week's blog, our next focus is Key Stage 3 with a resource for the Louis Sachar novel Holes but there will be other bits and pieces cropping up in the mean time so keep an eye on the site.

Have a good weekend.

Until next time.

Kind Regards

Martin

Romeo and Juliet Scheme of Work published

After a few false starts this week we finally published Romeo and Juliet and it has proved to be instantly popular with teachers. Copies of Romeo and Juliet sold quicker than any previous resource, breaking the record set by previous pacemaker Our Day Out.
Apologies for the slowing down of additions to the resource bank in recent weeks, this was due to much needed behind the scenes work with the website but you should see a plethora of new PowerPoints in the coming weeks.
In addition to Romeo and Juliet we are almost ready to publish our first English Functional Skills resource based on TV shows like Dragons' Den and The Apprentice. Hopefully Functional skills English - 'The Importance of Being Eloquent' will help lots of teachers deliver this new aspect of English which is unfamiliar ground to many. We hope to follow this with additional functional skills resources in the coming months.
As soon as Functional English is published we are turning our attention to KS3, a little neglected for a while, with a Holes Scheme of Work in the pipeline along with a smattering of new Key Skills resources.

So goodbye for now and as always please feel free to leave a comment.

Kind Regards
