KS3 History Teaching Resources: Life after slavery (The African American experience after Emancipation)

This Key Stage 3 Teaching History resource allows learners to structure an account of the life of a freed slave after Emancipation and Civil War in America.  These resources could cover a series of lessons and provide a homework opportunity for an extended writing task.  They ask learners to sort between ways that life improved after Emancipation and life stayed the same. This task can be developed by allowing learners to create a living graph to show how these changes affected the lives of ordinary African Americans during the period of Reconstruction.

The resources include:
  1. 13 slide PowerPoint.
  2. 9 detailled worksheets
  3. Assessment tasks/activities
  4. Extension activities
  5. Cross curricular 'Life Graph' lesson
